I’m Aware: A Message for 2016
Last night, I found myself in a posture of worship. My prayers were about how to make 2016 my best year yet. As I began to praise God, this is what HE said to me. “Get out of my way.“
Naturally, I responded okay. However, I’d be lying if I told you, at that point-in-time, I knew how to obey God’s command. I like the idea of getting out of God’s way, because I know, via my own history, that HIS way is better than my own.
I am in a very peculiar place in my life. I am living in the midst of an enormous amount of change. I like change. I like growth. However, I’d also be lying if I did not admit that life’s changes, to me, are as stressful as they are exciting. The stress comes from the transition to a place unknown, a place one has never been before. Naturally, anxiety, pressure, and worry arise when one is propelled into a place of new-ness. We often wonder if the new place, or our new way of being, will be as good as, if not better than, the old.
Surely some of you can relate. Maybe you are about to get married, or divorce a POS spouse. Maybe you are about to move to your dream city. Maybe you are starting school, or you are the parent of child starting a new school. Maybe you are about become a parent. Maybe you are about to start a new job or launch a company. Maybe this past week was hell, and you are just hoping this new week will bring new prosperity.
Where ever you are, and who ever you are, you can relate to the challenge and the excitement of something new.
Here is a common “new thing” we are all experiencing: a new year.
2016 is new for all of us. We have never experienced 2016 before.
Are you hoping that 2016 will be better than 2015? Do you desire to function better and live better in 2016 than you did in 2015? Do you want to do a new thing?
If this is the case, God’s message to me, is also a message for you. God wants us to get out of HIS way, so that he can be the master of new things that HE is.
Did you realize God was the master of new things?
God is the king of new things! God loves new things. God loves change.
It is us, people, we are the ones frustrated by change. God loves doing new things so much; he has never made the same human being twice. Every human being is different, even if they are twins who look alike.
But lets not digress.
So last night, I was in a space of worship. I was praying about 2016 and all the new things happening in my life when God said, “Get out of my way.”
I was comforted by this message. Get out of your way God? Gladly!
Then The Lord gave me this scripture:
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:5
This scripture gave me the “how” to my command.
In order to get out of God’s way, I must trust HIM. I have no clue about the what, when, and how in regards to the promise of new things and changes God is orchestrating in my life. All I can do is trust HIM.
In order to trust God, The Book of Proverbs tells us to acknowledge HIM. Now, how do we acknowledge God? We must get to know HIM in order to see HIS ways and will in our lives above and beyond the conditions of our lives that are new, unfamiliar, and hard to understand.
Which brings me to another scripture:
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
The scripture tells us to be anxious about nothing! Do not anticipate. Do not worry. Do not presume. These things take us out of the will of God. Is God ever worried? Is God ever anxious? Is God ever presumptuous? No
God is God and HE knows ALL. This is why Proverbs tells us to acknowledge HIM in ALL our ways. Then, Philippians shows us how to do that.
We acknowledge God, by being thankful for our lives and for ALL that we know HE has done for us. We have a good report, because we are still living to experience new love, joy, and mercy despite whatever we may have lost in the past or whatever we feel like we lack in the present.
The truth is, if we needed it, we would have it. Why would God give us life for free, air to breathe for free, freely give us all of the intricacies of our bodies which we could not have ever fathomed needing, but he will withhold our other needs? That just does not make sense.
In 2016, God wants to give us even more goodness to live, laugh, and love. But we must be in a position to receive. We do this by getting out of his way with our worry, doubt, and feelings of negativity.
We do this by trusting HIM and by seeking to know God better than we know our crazy selves.
We must talk to God, think about HIM, and relate to HIM. When we do these things, we essentially align our beings with God’s will and we get out of the way of our blessings.
Are you in God’s way?
